The Jermuk Mineral Water Factory started off in 1951
with a small yearly production of 350,000 one litre
bottles. In 1956, after a major expansion, its capacity
was increased to 20 million bottles a year. In 1984,
a new production line was added, which made it possible
to produce 60 million bottles of mineral water a year,
most of which was exported not only to the republics
of the former Soviet Union, but also to the outside
world (the USA, Britain, France, Poland, Bulgaria,
among others.)
After the fall of the U.S.S.R., production fell
back dramatically because of economic and transporation
blockades by neighboring countries. The factory
was privatized, and plastic (PET) production lines
were installed in 1995 - a first in Armenia. Today,
the annual production of “Jermuk” mineral
water amounts to 15 million bottles that are mainly
sold on the local market. In 2001, the factory started
producing “Jermuk Light” table water
and “Hayq”, a natural mountain spring
water from the pristine sources around Jermuk.
These products of the Jermuk jsc have of late aroused
great interest in several foreign countries, thanks
to their high quality, their medicinal properties
and their unequaled taste.
